You old, you free

Recorded in the autumn of 2005.

You old, you free
Cross-fade and clapping
Frown at us always
We who live for the day
You silent, joyful beauty
My art is for free so why so greedy
You old, you fool

Turn-downs shower down
Like kicks in our hearts
Plans get thwarted
And too much self-pity

Every day they bring us fuel to our flame
Hope someday they’ll make a liar out of me
Some gonna raise a mutiny
And debunk all the fakes

And it’s far too many dreams
And it’s far too many defeats
And it’s far too many walls
And it’s far too many signs
Saying it’s too much in vain
And it’s far too much bitterness

You cold
Dark side of the year
Unfixed no anchor
Confined and captive
A pitch-black one thousand piece jigsaw puzzle
Perplexed riddle
You old, you fool

Turn-downs shower down
Like kicks in our hearts
Bands get started
By too much self-pity

Every day they bring us fuel to our flame
Hope someday they’ll make a liar out of me
Some gonna raise a mutiny
And debunk all the fakes

And it’s far too many dreams
And it’s far too many defeats
And it’s far too many walls
And it’s far too many signs
Saying it’s too much in vain
And it’s far too much bitterness

Then the captain could step down adorned with gold
Mr misanthropist how can you subsist
I know you can’t subsist
on water, bitterness and cynicism
So that’s why we can’t live
in the north for the rest of our lives
You old, you free, you cold, you fool

And it’s far too many dreams
And it’s far too many defeats
And it’s far too many walls
And it’s far too many signs
Saying it’s too much in vain
And it’s far too much bitterness
